I recently lost my job that provided me with medical insurance. I only receive $131.00 per week of unemployment compensation. I was unable to afford COBRA. I could not obtain an individual plan because I am overweight, diabetic, with hypertension and elevated cholesterol, but they are all under control. I was informed by my insurance to apply for a high risk plan that would cost twice as much as the COBRA plan. I have a discount card that allows me a discount on my medications, but that has proven to be of little assistance. I can’t get my blood work at a discount and my doctor refuses to accept the plan. Something needs to be done for all Californians.
